I was looking at “All in with Laila Ali” a show that airs on CBS, though the 3 stories which was shown were touching, one stood out. In South Africa March 14 2000 Tonie and Shirley Joubert went for a walk, that would change their lives.
They discovered a new born hippo who was hungry, tired and weak, the former game ranger and hippo hunter did what his heart told him to do – feed her. They named her Jessica , she became apart of the family.
Hippos are considered one of the most dangerous animals in South Africa, but Tonie discovered that these animals are misunderstood. The family opened their homes to tourist from around the world who can come in and interact with Jessica and discover for themselves the warmness of this animal.
