Being Proud of Someone

June 6, 2016

How often do we tell someone how proud we are of them?  Many Moments pass us by daily when we sometimes fail to even utter words of positivity to someone on a job well done. This is not the case because we have malice toward them, but sometimes we may think it may be personally paltry or not a big deal. I have made it a priority in my life to congratulate my loved ones and even my friends when they succeed at even minuscule items just to help enlighten elevate their esteem. I think that even though we see it as being no big thing sometimes, it can really make a difference on their demeanor and overall development.

Recently I saw my brother’s musical dreams come to life when he Dj’d at a wedding in which I had the honor emceeing. I was so proud of him that I basked in the moment by taking a lot of pictures and videos of him in his glee. Seeing him behind the Dj booth doing his thing made me so happy and ecstatic for him. I felt not only like the proud big sister I am, but I saw him actually bringing his dreams to life.

His passion for music dates back for as long as I could remember. He would be the ubiquitous one, in the garage or any corner of the house practicing and even using music as a form of therapy. He said once that he recalled one occasion helping his bigger brother Rajin on a large Music gig, and Rajin had to step away for a moment and he ushered him in front the turn tables to hold the fort down.  He recounts “Being only 8 years old I was apprehensive, but once I started playing, I became instantly hooked; feeding off the music and crowd’s energy. I knew right away music would be my life”.

Nick has been the resident Disc Jockey at all our family parties, but seeing him in a professional setting was certainly different. Most people work diligently and practice for that big moment. When his big moment came we clapped cheered and let him know that we were proud. These are the moments I speak of vividly, when one brings forth their passion and dreams to life. I sure do feel a sense of happiness and everlasting joy for him and I look forward to seeing him play at other events and making his lifelong passion a stalwart journey to achievement.

I totally agree with you about commending someone’s achievements, and boosting their self-esteem in the process. That’s what makes life so much sweeter! There’s so much joy to be received in the giving, much much more than the receiving, as I’m sure you can attest to that! I’ve seen your work, and heard your voice and know that what you say is so true!
